Name - Tony Matthews QVRM
D.O.B - 28 JAN 1958

I  Grew up in Gravesend Kent and was influenced by my brother in law, who used to import obscure soul tracks from the States. Then by my good friend Clive Francis who introduced me to "Record Corner" in Balham and Contempo in Hanway Street, London, The home of “Blues & Soul”

There was no going back, I discovered iconic soulboy clubs like The Global Village, Crackers on Friday lunch times, 100 club, Lacy Lady ,The Goldmine, and The Atlantis in Margate on Bank Holidays.

I Found a young wannabee dj called Pete Tong and became his roadie at places like The Nelson, Gravesend, Kings Lodge, Hilltop, Island Hotel ,Elizabethan Barn ,progressing on to The Purley all dayers, Knebworth and Ally Pally all dayers and culminating in my spiritual home of Caister. I was the founding member of the famous Kent tribe "Gravesend Groovers", who you may remember from the Woodvile Halls all dayers. And the Kent Soul Festival.

After a lengthy break from the scene and the birth of my twins (Alex & Frankie) now 25 !!. I returned to Caister back in 1999, I started off playing poolside then graduated to the TZone and have been privileged to now play in the famous Caister Main Room

I have a residency at The Kent Soul Sessions as well as Frankies in Hornchurch and Soul Reunited in Romford.
Although I am a card carrying Jazz-Funker, I love the music of that great label Philadelphia Internaional. I do however like to seek out new modern soul and jazzy tunes. My highlight at Caister is The Caister Anthems session with my old buddy Pete Collins.

My other hobby is as a Warrant Officer in the Royal Naval Reserve, I have served for 32 years  and I was decorated QVRM by HM the Queen in the 2003 New Years Honours List for services to the Royal Navy.
